introduction
overview of the organization
Laird Therapy Dog Rescue was formed to implement ideas developed over many years of observing and participating in dog rescue with many other dog rescue organizations and during several years of working and traveling with therapy dogs. Some of the goals:- Rescue outstanding dogs who would otherwise be killed.
- Help unwanted dogs become therapy dogs who can serve their community.
- Provide a highly-visible example for the public of rescued dogs who are wonderful - not "broken."
- Provide pre-trained "loaner dogs" to people (especially families/children) who want to learn to care for a dog before getting dogs of their own.
- Encourage volunteers to participate by matching their skills and willingness with available needs without the stress of constant emergencies. Also provide them with support (training opportunities, behavior consultations, kennel facilities, etc.) to ease the burden of foster care.
- Develop a self-sustaining operation that allows the group to focus on caring for dogs instead of fund raising while providing an example for others who want to start their own groups.
- Occasionally provide "ready to go" family dogs to special families.
- Provide dogs for on-site socialization of client dogs.
We are located in West Lafayette, Indiana, USA.
